What is an HSA or FSA?
In the United States, a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to use pre-tax income to pay for eligible healthcare expenses.
In some cases, behavioral or mental-health support services may qualify for HSA or FSA payment when they are supported by a Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN).
Coachbit has partnered with Flex, a secure payment platform that helps families use their HSA or FSA benefits for eligible coaching services by guiding them through the documentation process during checkout.
What is Flex and how is it connected to Coachbit?
Flex is a payment platform that specializes in processing HSA and FSA transactions.
When you choose the Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA option during checkout, Flex securely processes the payment and helps generate the documentation required for HSA/FSA eligibility.
During this process, Flex will guide you through a short eligibility form and generate a Letter of Medical Necessity if required. This documentation can be used to support your HSA or FSA claim.
How to Pay with HSA or FSA
How do I pay with my HSA or FSA card?
Your Learning Strategist will send you a magic link to activate your child’s coaching plan.
Click Activate Plan.
You will be redirected to the Flex checkout page instead of Stripe.
Select Pay with HSA/FSA.
Enter your HSA or FSA debit-card details.
Complete the short eligibility form requested by Flex.
Flex will then generate the necessary documentation, including a Letter of Medical Necessity, which will be sent to you for your records.
What if I don’t have my HSA/FSA card available?
You can still select Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA and pay with a regular credit or debit card.
Flex will email you:
• An itemized receipt
• Your Letter of Medical Necessity
You can submit these documents to your HSA or FSA provider to request reimbursement.
Why was my HSA/FSA card declined?
The most common reasons include:
• Insufficient funds in the account
• Your plan requiring reimbursement instead of direct card payments
• Temporary restrictions from your HSA/FSA administrator
If your card is declined, you can still complete the purchase with a regular card and submit the Flex receipt for reimbursement.
Can I split the payment across multiple HSA/FSA cards?
At this time, payments cannot be split across multiple HSA or FSA cards.
If one account does not have enough funds, you can pay using a regular card and submit the documentation from Flex to request reimbursement later.
Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN)
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?
Some wellness or behavioral-health services require documentation showing that the service supports a medical or behavioral health need.
This documentation is called a Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN).
Normally this letter would need to be obtained from a healthcare provider. When paying through Flex, the required information is collected through a secure form during checkout so that the documentation can be generated automatically.
Do I need to do anything to get the letter?
No additional steps are required.
Once you complete the Flex eligibility form during checkout, Flex generates the documentation and sends you a copy by email.
Do I need to send the letter anywhere?
You should keep the letter for your records in case your HSA or FSA administrator requests documentation.
It is generally recommended to keep these records for at least three years.
I entered incorrect information in the form. Can it be updated?
Yes.
Please contact [email protected] with your corrected details and they can reissue the documentation.
